Will MI support Good Jobs?  What’s going on with a part-time legislature, and should we eliminate the Senate?  Epstein challenges Young, and a great interview with state Rep. Moss.  Sponsored by www.DeadlineDetroit.com.

Mr. Ballenger, I appreciate your discussion of my proposal to go back to how Congress started which was unicameral and was only split in the great compromise to balance the big states and the little states. In 1835 when our state’s constitution was written it would seem that there was no debate on having two chambers and we only followed the Federal model. So my epiphany is that if there is no good policy reason for two chambers then as a fiscal conservative I feel that $50 million could be better spent on lets say roads, or paying the unfunded liability of the teachers pension system or how about maybe to help the mentally disabled. Especially as Macomb County has lost $31 million in a rebasing plan that redistributed those funds across the state. I take exception that my motivation is to be a quasi- state senator. Coming to Lansing was not a career goal, but as I spent the last seventeen years on city council being told by state government that we had to do more with less it is time for Lansing to Lead by Example. I know that it is easy in politics to assume that everything is done for personnel benefit, but I am perfectly content to support good policy for my time here and then going back to Richmond. I would love to have the opportunity to debate good government further.

Rep. Yaroch–thanks for listening and thanks for your response. I talked with Bill and we would like to have you on our podcast. I’ll call your office Monday to coordinate–unless there is a better way to get on your schedule. Thanks!
