Does torture work? Could Detroit have avoided bankruptcy?

June 17, 2016 by Dennis Denno Leave a Comment

What was it like being a Detroit police officer at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull after game 5 of the ’84 World Series?

LANSING—The Friday Morning Podcast, a podcast hosted on Bill Ballenger’s website, www.theballengerreport.com and produced by Dennis Denno, today uploaded the second podcast with Sid Bogan, the Chief of Transit Police for the City of Detroit.

Bogan talks about teaching American soldiers how to deal with torture and being in a scout car on the corner of Michigan and Trumbull during the 1984 World Series.  He also talks about being the Chief of Staff for former Detroit City Councilman Gary Brown, and suggests how Detroit could have avoided bankruptcy.

“Bogan is a great story that no one has heard of,” Ballenger said.  “It is amazing how varied his experiences are.  He really is the story of Detroit.

The Friday Morning Podcast is free and delves into the personalities of interesting people in and around the state Capitol—what they do, what makes them tick, and the little-known aspects of their lives.  The podcast will be posted on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month.  The podcasts have a interview-style format with Denno as host.  Each podcast is approximately 10-15 minutes long.

Thank you for visiting! You have let us know that what we produce about Michigan politics and government matters to you. More people than ever are reading and listening to what we put on our news site, and the 2022 election was especially momentous. Your support makes all the difference.

As you know, unlike many news websites, we haven’t put up a paywall. We want to keep our journalism as open as we can, but we need to ask for your help. We are editorially independent, meaning we set our own agenda. Our journalism remains truly free from commercial influence or bias. We are not subsidized. We don’t put up paid advertisements. No one edits our Editor. No one steers our opinion.

But The Ballenger Report (TBR) takes time, money and hard work to produce. If everyone who reads or listens to our material — and likes it! — helps to support it, our future would be much more secure.

Whatever you might want to contribute will help TBR continue. Thank you.
